Highland Railway engraved glass windows

The Highland Railway’s carriages typically had engraved glass windows to their toilets that had a charateristic “thistle motif” on them.

Duncan Petford produced some artwork to represent these and has allowed Miscellany Models to sell them to other interested modellers.

In 4mm, the panels are approx. 10.1 x 13.1mm with the etched window approx. 6.1 x 9.1mm. This seems to be the standard size of a toilet window and as you can see, once they are installed they really add to the Highland feel of a carriage.

Most carriages seem to need four, but this Jones era chariot ended coach (from the Lochgorm range) had five. Thus they come in packs of five so for most projects there will be a spare.

Price £7.00 for the five, post (to the UK) included.

There are no instructions for this, but do please note that one side retains a protective film and this should be removed prior to installing. The perspex can be cut by scoring a line and then snapping it over. I find that securing is best with white PVA glue or canopy glue – do not use cyano as it will fog the glass.
